Staying in the light during the COVID-19 period

*Read till the end to find tips for crafting the ‘About’ section on your Linkedin profile.*

The global COVID-19 pandemic has created much uncertainty and stress on many levels. Many people have been forced to stop working and human activity has to a large extend shifted to Zoom and other online platforms. In the midst of this uncertainty and anxiety, it might help to ‘stay in the light’ by preparing for your next opportunity.

What will it be? A professional fellowship? A degree? A new job?

Challenging times are an opportunity to go inward and reinvent our professional self. So here are 3 questions to help you craft an updated paragraph in response to the famous interview question: “Tell us About yourself!”. Your response can also be used in the ‘About’ section of your LinkedIn profile.

Tips for writing the About section of your LinkedIn profile:

1. Start with WHY: Open with the inspiring big picture: Why do you do what you do? Or why do you want to do what you are aiming to do? What is your ultimate goal? What kind of impact do you want to make?

2. Continue with WHAT: What is your current role or what are you applying to as your next step? Instead of simply stating the facts, consider formulating the answer as follows: “I help XX by doing YY”.

3. Wrap up by highlighting your Unique Value Proposition (UVP): Mention the assets (achievements and characteristics) that equip you towards making your intended impact. This should include critical name dropping of significant organizations you’ve worked or collaborated with, and of impressive recognitions you’ve won.

How to thread these dots together? Well, now you need to get the writer’s inspiration flowing in you… If you’re struggling to continue beyond these bullet points, give Noa a shout! AppShine.Contact@gmail.com
